Cap'n and I and our spouses had a great time in Ghent. Waffles, snow storm, chocolates, cycling, coffee houses, double fried frites and the odd beer. Delerium Tremens my favourite tipple of the trip and De Karpe cycling bar near the velodrome was a great experience.
Thoroughly recommend a visit if you haven't been before. A very popular destination for many UK cyclists - they were everywhere!
Great time. FD setting the pace. Velodrome definitely worth a visit as was Ghent. Wiggins and Cav in action. Lovely feel to bars and tourist spots. Lovely Jubbly CP
Doubt I'll be out as meeting a few landlubber friends the night before. They don't sail, but they like their grog! Lie in and Zwift turbo later probably.
Ahoy the champions
Still on recovery but will be out as soon as can. Not this Sunday I am afraid but on the mend.
Catch up soon. Looking forward to the Thia night.
CP
Nothing too strenuous in the winter sunshine. Steady club pace, all taking a turn on the front, plenty of friendship and banter, nobody left behind. Happy days.
Perhaps our recuperating Cap'n is up to receiving visitors afterwards?
We are the champions, my friends And we'll keep on fighting 'til the end We are the champions We are the champions No time for losers 'Cause we are the champions of the world
Will be going to archery as can do standing up things.
Should be back in time for 12.15 onward. Call in , if I am back will make the coffee.
Open your eyes
Look up to the skies and see
I'm just a poor boy,
I get no sympathy
Easy come easy go
Little high little low
Anyway the wind blows
Does not really matter to me
I'm a shooting star leaping through the skies
Like a tiger defying the laws of gravity
I'm a racing car passing by like Lady Godiva
I'm gonna go go go
There's no stopping me
Don't stop me now
I'm having such a good time
I'm having a ball
Don't stop me now
If you wanna have a good time
Just give me a call
Tuns 9.30 tomorrow. Pace WON'T be as described above!
Not ready for a saddle yet
Pity a solo voyage
Gets milder end of next week
Buddy your a young hard man
Shouting in the street
Gonna take on the world some day
You got blood on yo face
You big disgrace
Waving your banner all over the place
Sunday 11th looks doubtful for me as it's highly unlikely that the bilge pumps will have bailed me dry following a festive double header this Friday and Saturday.
Another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust
And another one gone, and another one gone
Another one bites the dust
Hey, I'm gonna get you, too
Another one bites the dust
How do you think I'm going to get along
Without you when you're gone?
You took me for everything that I had
And kicked me out on my own
Hey listen here
Now I got mortgages on homes
I got stiffness in ma bones
Aint no beauty queens in this locality
Oh but I still get my pleasure
Still get my greatest treasure
Heap big woman you gonna make a big man out of me.
Just a man
With a man's courage
He knows nothing but a man
But he can never fail
No one but the pure in heart
May find the golden grail
Oh oh, oh oh
Flash.
Yeah, you don't waste no time at all
Don't hear the bell but you answer the call
It comes to you as to us all
Hey, we're just waiting
For the hammer to fall - yeah
Yeah, toe the line and play their game
Yeah, let the anaesthetic cover it all
Till one day they call your name
You know it's time for the hammer to fall - yeah
10 out last night for Cap'n's festive Far East table. 0miles @ 0mph but plenty of laughs & banter as always. No sign of Walter.
I gotta be cool, relax, get hip
And get on my tracks
Take a back seat, hitch-hike
And take a long ride on my winter bike
Until I'm ready
Crazy little thing called love.
Miserable weather here in the real world so went for a dry Zwift 25 mile group ride in virtual London with over 200 other riders. Even managed to ride close to my real West End office. No virtual muppets though and still no sign of Walter. Just the thing to sweat out last night's red curry.
Now for a real drink in Hitchin's latest bar. Over 500 bottled beers available. Close my eyes, drink a Delerium Tremens and I could virtually be back in Ghent....

Tony to lead ride next week

Riding restricted today as it was the Flying Dutchboy's 17th.
First lesson for him how to drive his birthday car - free taxis home for the parents not far off now.
Tuns on a Friday night?!
Getting dark so stayed in and went for a Zwift one in Watopia instead.
Virtual Dutchman
Will get an extra barrel in if you are coming

Off with the Cap'n and spouses to the land of cycling, beer and chocolates. What's not to like? Looking forward to seeing Cav and Wiggo smash it!
Should be good or I'm a Dutchman.
It might be only next to the orange land, but at least they almost speak the same language.
Nog een bierke alsjeblieft
Nog één biertje, graag

Not sure if any of the crew were out? Our champion, the Cap'n, laid up with scurvy. A few weeks recovery apparently.
I stayed in for a Zwift one and did so again tonight.
Maybe out to lead ride next week, weather and grog permitting.

Swift recovery Cap'n from the operation to scrape barnacles from your hull. Follow ship's doctors' orders before setting sail again.
Also looking forward to the Thai night.

Forecast currently sunny, cold and dry this Sunday 4th December, albeit with a freshening easterly breeze.
Thinking Bassingbourn, Fowlmere, Thriplow, Newton, Chapel Hill, Orwell, Wendy loop. 35miles @16's.

Not going to lead a ride today:
Sharp frost here in Hitchin and currently -4C, so a group ride maybe too dangerous with ice around.
Probably go out later when it's thawed out.
Stay safe if you're riding today

Take care
Always the mountain bike option
Assume no one back for coffee
Catch up soon

I want to ride my bicycle
I want to ride my bike
I want to ride my bicycle
I want to ride it where I like.....
.....Except when there's the possibility of black ice. Didn't want the group to go down like dominoes if one slipped.
Stayed iced over and a sharp frost in my back garden in Hitchin even during the afternoon.
Went for a Zwift ride in sunny Watopia instead. Organised group ride 30 miles @ 20mph. Fab.

Imaginary Dutchman.
Will lead a shortish ride Sunday 18th Dec.
Head for the flatlands of the North. Nice and steady, 15-16mph average with no one left behind.
Weather forecast is foggy to start but clearing later. Light winds and hopefully dry.
Make space for those mince pies and brussells!
See you there
