Welcome to the forum

Final CX round.

It was the last race in the Eastern league today over in Snetterton. The ground had defrosted and turned very slippery in places for the start of the V40 race. Tim was unlucky to have a rider crash right in front of him on the first lap bringing him down and a couple of others in the process. (Hope the legs not too sore Tim). That was pretty much the end of Tim's race leaving myself, Dave and Richard to battle it out. The spiral section narrowed and the turns tightened and it wasn't long before another group of riders went down in a heap. I managed to stay out of trouble with just a few scary moments of the back wheel skidding out. The course had a good mix of technical sections, a fast road section, an unrideable hill (for me) and a fast muddy decline that needed plenty of concentration as it had a fence right beside it leaving no room for error. I was pleased with my start and battled out the last 3 laps with 2 other riders. We switched places several times but I managed to hold the position for final lap mainly thanks to the dismount and remount practice that Mark ran last week. I finished 45th in the race and 45th in the final standings for the league. Aiming for top 30 next season.

Thanks to Mark, Tim and Jackie for running the Wednesday night sessions. Its been a great help and thanks to all the other CCA riders for all the tips and advice on race day and all those on the sidelines cheering us on.

I'm going to miss battling it out with Richard as he moves to the V50 along with Tim next season, see you in 7 years!

  • Nice one Dan. You looked like you were having a good race today.
Very tricky conditions especially on the whole of the field section. I came down hard without warning on the bend into the finish straight but was able to carry on. Usual close racing between the V50 group where Pete D had the upper hand today.
  • It was a lovely cold day and i was looking forward to one last race with Dave before moving up next season. The flat field was so slippery and the first twisty bit and spiral of doom were like being on ice. I was going well just the right side of out of control and right with Dave when someone who was very much the wrong side of control came sliding along the floor and took out my wheels. I think i landed on his chainset and mangled my shin a bit, sort of wimped out then and went and had a hot pasty and chips..mmm!
Other highlights were seeing Harley hold off her big rival for a great win and Travis with his amazing spiral trick. The spiral is a big circular set up on a flat field where you spiral in in ever decreasing radius turn in the centre and spiral out again. It came very near the start of the course and from a distance looks like 80 riders riding into the same space and coming out again about a minute later. Anyway, Travis entered the CX equivalent of a muddy washing machine in about 20th and came out in 1st!!..genius!

looking forward to next year already..results below.
