Thanks for this Andy. It is a sad time but Bob and I have fond memories of our many years riding together before we started CCAshwell. He had to stop riding in 2004 when he could no longer keep his balance nor had proper motor control a side effect of the condition. Despite this he never complained and somehow managed to rise above all the many setbacks. I shall miss his sense of humour and his friendly welcome and smile. The odd day trip to France with Bob and Adrian and Bob's Lantern Rouge riders resulted in a hatfull of stories many of which indirectly led Bob and I to start CCA. We were determined that there was a friendlier way to ride with others. Adrian was last out of the restaurant in Ardres and the ride with Bob and I chasing was hell bent on getting to Calais ferry. With Adrian nowhere in sight I turned back because I knew he had no map and didn't know the route along the canal. We timetrialled it back and eventually picked up riders who had been burnt off the lead. When we reached the ferry Adrian couldn't find his passport and we watched Bob and the rest leave on the ferry. For his sins Bob had to wait at Dover for us on the next ferry. That was a late day by the time we got back but throughout we were able to have a great time and laugh off everything. Adrian was always good company whatever the circumstances.
Adrian was a gentleman who loved his art. Was always interested in my son Jack and how he was getting on at uni.
I have fond memories of the last two New Year's Eve celebrations when we did a safari supper between our two houses with friends. He greatly enjoyed sharing time with others.
A kind man whose warmth and determination in circumstances that would test most will he missed.
I have just heard from Elizabeth Mallett that there will be a memorial service for Adrian at 11.30am on Wednesday 29th March in St Mary's church Ashwell. She welcomes all who knew her father.
