Saturday 8th April - 9.30am club ride

Well, could be glorious weather wise tomorrow (although after last's weeks bold claim I'm holding out till tomorrow). Summer bikes & maybe shorts for the brave (obviously its still two months too early for me ;))

How about we have a crack at a ride we attempted last summer, taking on some of the roads around Kimpton for a change?

Ashwell-Henlow-Mepershal-Hexton-Lilly-Cockernhoe-Peters Green-Kimpton-Whitewell-Gt Wymondly-Baldock-Ashwell (46 miles)

Huge potential for getting lost around the end of the runway of Luton airport, so maps and GPS devices at the ready :)

See you in the morning !

  • Hey David, planning on making a comeback tomorrow. Is it ok if I bring a mate who's interested in joining the club?
  • David - can you make the route public please?

  • David, that map doesn't appear to replicate the description?
  • No idea why the map wasn't public - set it to be earlier. Just done it again so should be viewable now.
  • Right I've failed many times to load the mapmyride GPX version, so here is a garmin connect version

Time to go old skool & photocopy a map !
  • Thanks chaps, enjoyed that

Slightly late writeup this week - too busy enjoying yesterday's sunshine.

So a good turnout on Sat for a ride in the spring sunshine. Plenty of exposed limbs and summer bikes on display - could have almost been June. Amazingly lots of people had managed to get the route onto their Garmins, so we setoff into the unknown.

And what an unknown it was! Some great little country lanes out near the end of Luton airport runway. A little bit up, a little bit down followed by a long descent all the way to Kimpton. Only downside was the the roads were a bit flinty in places, causing Tim's tyre to spectacularly explode on a corner! Still we all go to do some sunbathing for a few mins so not all bad.

Think we got our hill climbing mojo for the second half of the ride and the pace really ramped up. The double header of the climbs from Kimpton to Whitewell and Whitwell to Stagenhoe were right good fun & just for once I wasn't last on the descents ! All finished off with a tailwind assisted run back through Baldock & up the Bygrave road.

Final tally was 45 @ 16 and a bit. Great morning, really enjoyed that chaps (no ladies this week). Definitely one to do again.
