Personally I am over the moon with my 19 minute ride, as some of you may have seen from social media spamming. I've learnt from pervious races that I need a long warm-up for shorter events, both for the legs and to get my head focused.
Race report:
A guy who I was warming up next to in the car park found me when I was queuing to start having just finished and said it felt quick, with a tailwind to the turn I was keen to get ahead of schedule but not go into the red for the slog back into the wind. Was a bit concerned I was coming off the boil as got to the start about 15 minutes early, but better than being late like the chap with the flash Trek who then had to wait until a DNS gap showed up. Anyway, big effort out of the start and onto the A11, I only glance at the computer a couple of times to make sure I'm not pushing too hard. Normalized power is about 365w at this point. Christ. Relax, the starting effort would inflate that. Get to the turn in good shape, no cars in sight on the RAB so fly round still on the skis, Strava suggests I did 29.9mph at 339w around the roundabout! Love this course, a quick glance at the time as I come down the slip road says 9:30. This is on, sigh, next 10 minutes are going to hurt. The drag as soon as you rejoin the carriageway is purgatory, 375w for 50 seconds halfway through. Stop looking at speed you idiot it doesn't matter. Settle. The bumps and dips come and go. Tuck your chin in more. Shrug the shoulders, get the knees in. The sign for the Wilbraham's appears. This is the junction before. Is it half a mile to go or a mile? 300 yard sign! Thank Christ for that. Pedal more. its almost done. Across the line. Someone has stuck a checkered board to a Honda CRV. Funny what you pick up when you're crying lactic. Pause Garmin. Look down. 19:43, 339w. PB.

A few CCA riders in the middle markers race too...
15th, Adam Swan, 22:19
17th, James Davis, 22:24
55th (9th woman), 23:59
I agree it was super quick, somehow I reached the turn before I knew it, and the headwind on the way back wasn't as bad as I expected. Tuck, shrug, breathe, pedal...time trialling really is about the basics! Brilliant rides by Adam and James!
I had a really fun day out. I'd set myself a target of doing a long 22 on my road bike this year so was really chuffed to see 22:19 on my Garmin. I did similar to you, 320 on way out and came back at 340 watts and tried to be as small as possible. Headwind wasn't too bad in the end. It's a fast course without a doubt.
Next target for me is to do a 25 under the hour on the road bike. Best keep training.
