18 riders out this evening and the weather according to the windsock was

All went very smoothly on the race set up front this week. Arrived early with plenty of time to set up HQ, 2 bikes and the course. Did not discover until I put the last signs out that there were traffic lights on the course. Spoke to a number of riders and quickly moved some signs to shorten the course to avoid the lights.
I think this was safe and all worked well but it made the course was exactly half a mile short so some quick times.

Hope James can work some magic with a spreadsheet to get equivalent times? Think it would have been fast tonight.

Well done to Dan D for talking Dan P to take part on the line. Robert B had a win before the start by finding a bra by the side of the road???

Thanks to Anita, Gareth and Robert for help at the start/finish and Jenny for marshalling at the toll house turn. Nothing to report this week except for how fast some cars travel on that road.

  • Thanks to Stuart and all the helpers. Hopefully the road works will be gone by next week.

Yes well done Stuart and team for efficiently working round the unexpected roadworks.

I'm sure someone will come up with something more scientific, but by my reckoning if the course was half a mile shorter, then at my average speed of exactly 23 mph I saved 1 minute 18 seconds, making my 'real' time 25:44 - an approximation of course. Next week I'll time exactly how long it takes me to get between the 2 start points.
  • I just did divide by 9.5 multiply by 10.
It's ok for comparison but obviously doesn't take account for the uphill start

Have tried to work out equivalent times based on course being 9.3 miles rather than 9.8. Used average speed for 9.3 and same avs for 0.5 and added together. Have round up or down to tenths. Hope it is roughly right :-)

sorry - it didn't paste properly so 1st column is time on the night / next column is avs / next is additional time for 0.5m / final column projected time for 9.8m(usual distance)

  • Thanks very much Jackie. According to the above, it is safe to say 3 riders would have comfortably got PBs:

    Tim A, Jess L, Noah F

Points will be awarded according to actual times allowing for handicap and the 3 above will have their PBs updated according to the pro rata formula (including a generous 3 second allowance) as follows:

    Tim A - 25:48 (15 seconds)
    Jess L - 27:18 (8 seconds)
    Noah F - 24:38 (6 seconds)

Any complaints please see Stuart :)
