Saturday 24th June 9.30am ride

I'll be in S Wales tomorrow morning, watching my mum become a vicar :) As I'll be in a country full of hills would be rude not to take my bike, so I'm also going to have a crack at an 'incline' near a local reservoir which I've never been able to climb on any bike I've tried. I'll let you know how I get on........

So could somebody volunteer to navigate a route tomorrow. Ta.

See you all next week for the 5 counties.

Fun, fun, fun for me last Sunday with my spin in the glorious Usk valley. After a flat (for Wales) warmup it was time to tackle the wall of road that is the Darran climb.

Mind you before I got there had to go downhill first, so when you see this it's always a worrying sign.........

and then after the 90 degree uphill bend to rob you of any speed it's up the other side, from pretty much a standing start. 600ft of 15-17% gradient, 5 mins of torture, bit of front wheel lifting for good measure. Here is what it looks like from the bottom.

No point taking a picture of the view from the top, there ain't one :)

Then after this more lovely rolling countryside. Wales really isn't flat, at all !

So a great way to spend a Sunday morning and remind myself that Wales really isn't flat, at all, anywhere !!
  • Sounds like you had fun David, we know you love those hills really! Some sneaky practice for the 5 peaks on Saturday as well ;-)

We did a slightly less up and down route, south west around Hitchin towards Luton airport and back via St Pauls Walden etc, ably navigated by Dave A.
