Saturday 19th August 9.30am club ride

OK, bit of a dilemma for the club ride tomorrow. Forecast is for 17-18mph westerly winds so it prob makes sense to go west and get a tailwind back, but we have done a lot of westerly routes in the past few weeks.......

So options are:

Some version of the classic Stewartby ride:

Ashwell-Haynes-Maulden-Ampthill-Stewartby-Old Warden-Broom-langford-Ashwell (50miles)

or down towards Welwyn as there are more trees and hedges this way:

Ashwell, slip end, Cromer, Walkren, Watton, Datchworth, Bulls Green, Bramfield, stapleford, Sacombe, Dane end, Nasty, Cherry Green, Westmill, Buntingford, Sandon, Ashwell (46 miles)

or some version of the Two bridges route

Let's decide in the morning. See you then

  • As always, you're welcome for coffee if you take the Dane End route. Can't promise we'll have the BBQ lit by then though!
  • 14 of us on this Saturday for a pretty breeze club ride. Decided that west was best so headed out into the headwind to do the Stewartby/Ampthill loop. Just to mix it up a bit though, we did the Stewartby loop bit in reverse, so did our first ever club ride going the 'wrong way' past the proving ground at Milbrook and then the assent of the hill into Ampthill rather than out of it. Not sure it's quite a much fun as going down it thought, but was easier than it looked.

So post Ampthill we picked up the tailwind and zoomed back though Haynes, old warden and Broom before a 20mph+ ascent of Langford hill. Everybody though that our guest TT specialist would take the sprint honours down love's lane, but after a surge by DaveN, Tim just piped him at the post !

So 50 miles @ bang on 17avg. Good stuff :)
