Saturday 23rd September 9.30 a.m. Club Run
With @DavidJ away, a good sized group set off under overcast skies and a gentle Southerly with @Timmer at the helm. Routing East of the A505 we headed through Rushden, Cromer, Walkern, turning left to Benington, then Whempstead, Dane End and Great Munden to take sustenance and relief just short of Westmill. As we began to bask in watery sunshine, a reappraisal of the likely route back to Ashwell was discussed during a short puncture break North of Buntingford whereupon we returned to Buntingford to take the road to Wyddial, followed by Ansty, Nuthampstead, Barkway and Buckland. @Captain P's slowing forward momentum was diagnosed as a broken spoke causing wobbly wheel brake rub just after turning off the A10 for the Rooks Nest route into Sandon. That fixed, we subsequently negotiated diabolocal pot holeage through Row Green to drop down onto the Rushden to A505 road. Then the real fun started!
As we turned onto the road to the A505 and with a breeze at our backs, Mr. Wells turned the wick up and we were soon travelling at up to 33s. For those sat in his slipstream, this was thrilling stuff! With the sprint signpost approaching,@Jenny showed an impressive turn of speed to move up with Taff, @Captain P and Mr. Morris in attendance. From where I sat, one of Mr. Morris and @Captain P shaded it.
About 42 miles at an average of about 15.5. A great fun morning out. Thanks to all. Good to see Taff out again and mixing it in the sprint following his shoulder injury.

I am claiming the sprint with a broken spoke.
Love the lead out from Redhill, wheel much better once I released the rear brake. :-)
