Northlands Cross

edited September 2017 in Cyclocross/Offroad
A somewhat depleted CCA filed in the CX yesterday with many doing the 3 peaks. Very sunny conditions made for a fast and hot race round Northlands Park. This is the course with the ditch - modified this year with a chicane just before it. The practice lap is funny with everyone trying every possible way to get over it without getting off - nearly always ending in a slow-mo, over-the-handle-bars crash. In the end I only saw Adam and a few juniors jumping it. The course was a good one with a few offs, couple of punchy hills and some flat out sprints. Mark, Pete and Stuart had a good battle with the lead changing several times between Pete and Mark; Adam, Nathan and Jackie all had great races and the younger riders as ever continue to prop us up in the overall club points (3rd).

  • Nice write up Iain. Well done to all the CCA riders. Not especially technical but some testing climbs and clingy grass in the heat made for a tough race. The chicane before the ditch was a good idea as it made for closer racing. Not so much of a disadvantage for the dismounters. Interestingly the Tullett brothers who rode the whole senior race together about a minute ahead of their nearest rivals took it 2 ways. One dismount and the other a hop. Little difference between the two.
