Saturday 20th October 0800 - Storm Brian

The weather forecast for tomorrow although dry is not great with 20mph steady wind with gusts to 45mph. I am therefore going to avoid the roads, but rather than spend time on the turbo in the garage plan to explore the Grand Union Canal path.

Thoughts are drive over Three locks, which is just outside Great Brickhill, leave the car there ride the route and then get the train back to Leighton Buzzard. The whole route is miles 60miles and looks flat but there is a bail out option half way to get the train in Watford.

I will be using my MTB is a old 26' hardtail GT.

Aim to be riding at 0800 from the car park.

  • Careful you don’t get blown in!
  • whilst i have not pedalled the GUC path, my towpath experience (kennet & avon, Shropshire Union etc) = fishermen, dog walkers, people tying up boats = slow progress, but usually very pleasant....
  • Racing Milton Keynes central cross league tomorrow.
  • Made it to London ok and stayed out of the canal. The path is a mix of tarmac, compacted gravel, concrete and grass with single track.

The path was generally very quiet. I had fitted a bell but I could have done with an air horn for some of the joggers with their music on.
