Welcome to the forum

Saturday 24th Feb ******10am******* club run

We clearly got too exited last week that spring was on the way :(

Baltic cold tomorrow, so lets go for a slightly later 10am start to let the frost/ice melt & do a slightly shorter route. Beast from east, so lets head that way first for a tailwind return

Ashwell-Sandon-Buntingford-Hare St-Clavering-Langley-Barkway-Buckland-Therfield-Odsey-Ashwell (38 miles)

See you tomorrow in your winter woolies......

  • Looking forward to this David but thought to mention that the last time I rode this way the lane round the back of Clavering was closed for long-term repairs. Anyone been through there recently? (If it’s still closed I guess one option is to continue a short distance on the 1038 and pick up the route by turning left straight after the river bridge.)
  • I'm going to have another go at meeting the group mid-ride. For some reason I've signed up for the North Road Hardriders on Sunday so need to save my legs, but would like to join you for an hour or so. I'll aim to be at the Hare Street junction about 10.40am. If you change the route please let me know!
  • Cheers Richard, I'm sure that we can find some way round.

Seems to be the season for road closures as the road from Reed to Therfield is also shut until May, so to now get to Therfield from Barkway we have to go the long way round via Buckland.

All a good test of my navigational skills ;)
  • Actually you can just about squeeze through the Reed-Therfield closure on a bike, I went that way last week. But there was a lot of debris on the road so it is a bit messy.
  • Excellent turnout this morning on a cold but beautifully sunny morning. 14 of us set off on the route above out to Buntingford and back via Langley. Roads were mainly ok, but several bits of ice needed to be tiptoed through. All around safely though :)

Highlight of the ride was being chased by a herd of fallow deer just outside Barkway, blimey those things are fast !

So 38 miles at a steady 15. Thanks all for a great morning!
  • Good ride today: bright sun, dry roads, could almost have been summer - except for the odd patch of ice, bitter east wind and 15 layers of clothing!
