Finchley RT Road Race 6th July
Trahern, Carmello, Keith & Richard all turned up on a windy/ grey day to sign on at the HQ at a tiny village hall in Ridge, just wet of South Mimms.
Tye Race was 5 3/4 laps of the 10 mile circuit which took the race near the M25 service station and north parallel to the A1. The circuit also had a 1 mile section down a farm track, which then turned left onto a main road with a fairly long drag up a hill, where the the finish line was situated.
As the bunch rolled out, the rain started and the first lap was a wet one - nice. aout 4 riders pulled up due to punctures (mostly down the farm track), but the rest keeping a good pace ~ 35mph going north along a bumpy lumpy road.
Approaching the farm track at the end of the second lap I foolishly joked, 'I wonder who'll get punctures this time round'. It was me, as I turned to go up the hill. I fixed my puncture and cycled back to HQ passing 2 other stranded riders on the way and meeting Keith (also puncture victim) picking up his licence.
Back to the car after a chat with a Cambridge CC rider who had come off to see another 2 victims returning.
According to a brief email from Carmello the group split and he struggled a little (back's gone again he thinks) and he finished 24th Richard did well to finish in 6th place. Well done.
So I got to go home early and squeeze the muddy water out of my socks and wash my bike. New tyre required as it's completely shot
Thank goodness it's summer otherwise I might not have time to write this as I'd be out training not watching it p**s with rain
