Chain gang, Tues 3 July 2018, 7.30pm 'World Cup edition'

We are just over half-way through the chain gang 'season' and enjoying up to 4 laps with the late sunset.

I suspect the roads will be quieter than usual, with the England game. Make it a win-win situation: ride the chain gang and catch the England victory highlights. Or, ride the chaingang and avoid watching them splutter and flop out.

Lap 1, 'The Peru'. Quite doable.
Lap 2, 'The Japan'. Actually quite a challenge. But defeatable.
Lap 3, 'The France'. You'll need to be on top of your game here. Drop your guard and you'll be sick as a parrot.
Lap 4, 'Brazil'. Total Chaingang.

The forecast is super hot with yet another easterly. Sunset 9.23pm. But bring lights anyway.

If you've not been on a chaingang for a while, or have never tried one: why not give it a go. Just hang on at the back if you want - particularly an idea at the start until the group gets into a rhythm.

7.30pm riders leave The Three Tuns, Ashwell.
7.35pm approx, meet other riders at Steeple Morden church/pub just before the turn to begin the first lap.

Come on down and sharpen your group road-riding skills, communication - calling out on potholes, on-coming traffic and vigilance on every turn - as well as boosting your summer fitness.

  • IT'S COMING HOME!!!!

Maybe see you out, enjoy anyway ;)
  • Virtually closed road cycling in the warm sunshine.

As to football logic, if England lose, then better off not watching it. If England win, then the next game will be better to watch anyway!
  • Well done. I've succumbed to World Cup fever.
    BBQ is on.
    Enjoy
  • Lap 1: Brazil.
    Lap 2: Brazil.
    Lap 3: Brazil.
    Lap 4: Brazil.

Just 6 out. So it was very tough with little time for a breather in the bunch.

Good to see Jenny out. Such a good rider in the chaingang and cleverly hanging off the back when needing a break. Very determined.

And it's always a cornering masterclass from Carmelo. He could teach us all a few things.

We raced home to catch extra-time and penalties. All good.
  • Yes that was tough!..Good group..Jenny definitely has something...Martin and Matt smashing it on last lap
