Saturday 13th October 9.30am club ride
I'm not around tomorrow morning I'm afraid, so can somebody volunteer to navigate the club run?
Going to lovely and warm but a bit windy tomorrow, so I'd suggest something southerly as these routes are normally a bit more sheltered and have the added bonus that you will get blown back to Ashwell on the return
Ashwell, slip end, Cromer, Walkren, Watton, Datchworth, Bulls Green, Bramfield, stapleford, Sacombe, Dane end, Nasty, Cherry Green, Westmill, Buntingford, Sandon, Therfield, Ashwell - 46 miles

or

Enjoy and I'll see you all next week

But getting the bike out the garage and seeing some rain, I thought it would just pass over and that it was a freak shower, as everywhere else had clear sky….but the rain persisted and got heavier. Cycling into Ashwell to the 3 Tuns I see the group hiding round the side out the wind and rain pretty much all in summer clothing.
We set off towards Walkern were we would meet up with Jenny. Battling with the rain hitting bare skin in the wind you would have thought it was hailing. Eventually we settled in the lanes where it was sheltered but had endless amounts of pot holes. We met up with Jenny…and Pilch. Pilch thought he missed us and put the hammer down in the wind to catch the group, but we were actually round the side of the pub at the time. Luckily he saw Jenny, otherwise he would have ended up chasing his own tail all morning.
By the time we got to Watton the rain had blown away and the wind was starting to settle down.
Riding into Datchworth, Bramfield and Dane End, the roads started to dry out and so did our clothing as it started to get nice and warm.
Heading back through Buntingford and Therfield the group started to break off to as people headed home. 6 of us left at the end, going down hill on Therfield Road, Taff and Dave absolutely flying, myself and Pilch in pursuit. Some dodgy cross winds whipped up making us a bit nervous.
Finally ramp up sprint into Ashwell, Taff leading out, I went for the sign hard not knowing who was behind, but everyones matches were burnt earlier on the down hill.
So mixed weather, 13 of us out in total, 46 miles @16.5. Cheers everyone.
Note: Applying ceramic dry lube (assuming it was dry) this morning was a mistake as it soon washed off when it dried the noise was horrendous. Sunday will be spent doing bike maintenance and prepping the winter bike.
