Saturday 15th December 9.30am club ride

If the forecast is right it's going to be proper brass monkey weather tomorrow morning. 1 degrees but with a windchill of -5 - nice !

So we don't all get frostbite lets go for a slightly shorter one tomorrow morning and head vaguely south east to do headwind out/tailwind home.

Ashwell-Sandon-Buntingford-Hare St-Clavering-Langley-Barkway-Buckland-Therfield-Odsey-Ashwell (38 miles)

or something similar ;)

See you tomorrow in your winter woolies......

  • better clean my chain....see you in the morning.
  • Wow, that was probably best described as brutal !

Ten hardy (or in hindsight probably fool-hardy) set off on Sat morning. Forecast was only 50% correct, yes it was brass monkey cold but they had forgotten to mention the howling SE gale that started just as we were about to set off.......

Decided to do an abridged route to the one above, which started off badly as we only could manage 8mph down station road, even with Jenny doing max power on the front. So the ride quickly turned into some sort of quest to find the least exposed and most hedgerow filled roads in the local area !! After the most comically slow climb to Therfield it was a random wiggle to Buntingford & then back via Great Munden and Cromer. We only got one bit of tailwind, down the slip end road which meant we sailed down there at 25mph+ without pedaling !!

All safely back to Ashwell though for a final tally of 30 hard fought, windswept and freezing miles. Don't get many mornings like that, still recovering now and not sure it's one I want to repeat in hurry !! Thanks all for the company and the camaraderie, fingers crossed for something less extreme next Saturday !
