Emma's London to Paris challenge

Hi all,

Exciting news - I have been selected by my employer to take part in the GSK Ride 4 Kids /Save the Children London to Paris Cycle Ride in July. I’ll be tackling about 500Kms over 4 days to arrive in Paris on the Eve of the Tour de France :-)

I will be looking for ways to do some fundraising - any crazy ideas welcome and will be considered - as a start I could try to feature on the cycling weekly ’11 worst cycling kit blunders’ by arriving in Paris in a yellow jersey and KOM socks doing a mock TDF sprint ……

There will also definitely be home baked goods (including Choc Guinness cake) at the some of the Club 10's in return for donations!

In the meantime if you would like to support me on this journey and raise some money for a great cause here is a link to my JustGiving page. GSK are being very generous and will match whatever I raise.

I'd also be interested to hear about your experience/any hints from anyone who has done this before.

Thank you and see you on the bike soon

Emma

  • Are you getting the ferry to Dieppe and then riding the Avenue Vert all the way to Paris? I did this and back last Easter bank holiday weekend with some friends from Lea Valley CC. It’s a lovely route, nice rolling terrain all the way there. Coming in to Paris and seeing the Eiffel Tower come across the skyline is a great feeling too. You’ll have a great time!
  • Thanks Will and to everyone who has donated so far.

The route is Crystal Palace to Dover, Calais to Abbeville, Abbeville to Beauvais and then Beauvais to Paris.

  • That’s almost exactly the same route Jane and I did on a similar event (back in errr 2007 I think).. it’s a great route. The first day is tough down to Dover but we really enjoyed the 3 days in France, some great roads and rolling terrain. The last day is really short and easy, apart from all the clipping in and out going through central Paris... Hopefully you won’t get pulled over by the gendarmes riding down the Champs Elysees like we did!
  • Emma - the 'square' outside the Town Hall in Abbeville looks just like a velodrome, but is partially surfaced in the slipperiest cobbles known to mankind in case you were thinking about a Paris-Roubaix style finish to day 2.

    Good luck
  • This sounds like such an exciting ride, a real challenge and for a good cause too. I for one will pay good money for some chocolate Guinness cake!
  • Hi all,

    An update...….

I'm marshalling at this weeks club 10 (15th May) and so I'll be bringing with me a homemade choc Guinness cake to say a big thank you to all those who have so far supported me/contributed to my London to Paris fundraising for Save the Children.

For those that haven't but wish to do so you can find full details here:

Cash donations (however small) will also be gratefully received on the evening from all inc. non club members - who can say no to a piece of yummy cake :-)

    See you Weds
