15th May Evening Club 10 TT - Report NOW UPDATED WITH RESULTS AND H'CAP STANDINGS

edited May 2019 in Time Trial
Despite a lovely day that felt warm in the Spring sunshine, as day turned to evening, the temperatures seemed to drop off fairly rapidly and the Easterly breeze appeared to hinder our plucky gladiators rather than help them on their way home: an unpleasant crosswind on the leg back from the Wrestlingworth crossroads was mentioned. There were no PBs to report, despite some valiant efforts.

Unfortunately, the eagerly awaited head-to-head between Mr. Young and Mr. Potter never materialised, as Mr. Young suffered a mechanical during his warm-up so was a DNS. Mr. Potter was, however, fastest Gentleman on the evening. The quickest Lady and (excuse me, ma'am) Vet (off Standard) was Mrs. Field and young Master Ayers was fastest Junior. We welcomed back many friends from the Meridian Tri Club, including Mr. Stigwood as an interested observer, who kept your correspondent company at the Toll Bar turn. We give your good folk our Ms. Koppe to your safe keeping for her first triathlon this coming weekend. It was also nice to see Master Hardy, recently of this parish, in his shiny new Welwyn Wheelers kit; a highly creditable third fastest on the night to you, sir.

However, all Handicappers be warned: Mr. McLeish, despite his triumph of 6th in the CCA National grass track 8K on a borrowed fixie on Saturday, a Sunday club run and the previous night's chain gang, posted his first time of 27.06 on a winter bike with mudguards and missing the turn at New Road. Be afraid; be very afraid! :-)

Thanks to our helpers on the evening, who were: Ashley, Ms. Koppe, Ms. Andrews and Mr. Ayers Sr. - who marshalled at the newly minted "Ayers Corner". Also, please give generously to Ms. Koppe's "Save the Children" charitable ride: remember, her employer will DOUBLE your contribution - and she may even bring us some more of her excellent Guinness chocolate cake to enjoy. :-) https://justgiving.com/fundraising/emma-koppe

As previously trailed, the full results will be posted via the new website - this to be done asap, so please bare with us - together with an early Handicap leader board.

  • Thanks Andy and thanks to all the helpers who made it happen. Wasn't a great night weather wise, that's my excuse anyway... Or being no 13!
  • Cheers Andy and all the helpers. A good turn out last night.
  • Very much enjoyed that, good event and I will be back next week to try set a PB on a better bike and not making any wrong turns!

    I was struggling on the commute home today and had to stop for a gel and then crawled home as Strappy saw when he flew past me!
  • Thank you all for the cake contributions - a very generous £26 cash and some extra online donations. Can easily make another one for a future TT (don't worry you don't have to pay again!) might rock the boat and make something different - requests taken....

    OK, so we're still fettling how to publish the results and Handicap standings on the new website. So, for now, we'll continue to publish them here "Old School".

    The Results on the night went like this (all CCA unless otherwise indicated):
    1. C. Potter 21:52
    2. B. Ronayne 22:47
    3. N. Hardy (J) (Welwyn, PTT) 24:03
    4. J. Field (F) 24:27
    5. G. Askew 24:33
    6. S. Miles 24:44
    7. T. Allen 25:34
    8. M. Scales 25:43
    9=. S. Douglas (Meridian Tri, PTT) 25:52
    9=. R. Bumstead 25:52
    9=. D. Marriage 25:52
    12. A. McLeish 27:06
    13. T. Chitu 27:14
    14. J. Bard (No Club, PTT) 28:11
    15. S. Orriss 28:22
    16. T. Lunnon (Meridian Tri, PTT) 28:32
    17. D. Jones 28:39
    18. T. Ayers (J) 29:02
    19. C. Duguid (F) (Meridian Tri, PTT) 29:24
    The current Handicap leaderboard after three races is as follows:
    1. D. Marriage 48
    2. G. Askew 42
    3. S. Orriss 29
    Mr. Marriage followed his impressive trouncing of his first time set in week one with back-to-back Handicap wins and is our deserved early leader. A fine effort, sir! Mr. Askew lies second showing admirable consistency with two second placings and a fourth. Mr. Orriss rounds out the top three, but having competed one time less than our two leaders.

    With 15 scheduled races still to go - and the possibility of roadworks/road closure along B1042 in the week of 14th June causing a cancellation - the competition is nicely coming to a simmer.
