Oakley village RR Saturday 12th July
The Village of Oakley between Biscester and Aylesbury hold a cycling event as part of their village show. Families go around the course in the morning with all participants getting a certificate. Then the 2/3 race kicks off at 11:30 with the 4th Cat starting at 11:35.
Trahern & Richard took part in the 2/3 race with Will taking part in the 4th Cat.
THe 2/3 race was 6 laps (~52 miles) of the course which was basically flat, the 4th was 4 laps of the same course.
THe first lap of the 2/3 was done at close to 50km/h with my target to hold on as long as possible an see how I faired cycling with the next category up. The pace lessened a little allowing me to recover a bit. Both Richard & I moved up and down through the pack throughout the race fairly comfortably. A few breaks were attempted that lifted the tempo of the pack as each one was chased down.
In the end a mass sprint through the village that was frankly too dangerous for my liking. Both Richard and I finished side by side in the bunch that rolled across the line all in one piece.
Will's race ended up in a bunch sprint and he got passed by a few riders close to the line. However he did end up in 10th place, picking up another point. Well done Will.
