29th May Evening Club 10 TT - Report
There must be a way of describing the weather at tonight's race: the Scots might have one perhaps? It wasn't exactly "drizzle", so add "mizzle" to your Scrabble armoury? But it was cool too, about 13 degrees Celsius and with a South to South Westerly with the odd gust. The kind of weather that saw poor Mr. Bumstead shivering at the off; so different from just last week. All of this probably helped to explain why we had just six hardy starters as other regulars perhaps decided to give it a miss or concluded that being away during the half-term break wasn't all that bad. Character building stuff, then.
As might be expected, these were not the conditions for PBs. And you'd be right. Nevertheless, Mr. Young made light of the weather, banging out yet another 22 minute ride and carrying off this week's Handicap honours to boot. Not to be outdone, young Master Hardy put in another solid 24 minuter to match his effort in more benign conditions a fortnight earlier and was fastest Junior. And it was a pleasure to see Mr. Wilsher from our friends at the Meridian Tri unit back again after injury, with talk of an Iron Man in the offing, we heard later. The Guvnor (Mr. Bumstead, for it is he) was fastest Vet off Standard on the night.
Don't forget that the InterClub 15 needs YOU. Please consider signing up to race this Sunday 2nd June - see the post towards the top of the Forum.

1 M. Young CCA 22:29The damp, cold and breezy conditions of the evening were contrasted by the warmth of the good cheer afterwards as the competitors and helpers repaired to the Village Hall for chat over steaming mugs and Mr. Allen's excellent biscuit selection, including discussion on our Handicap scoring; think of explaining the offside rule! Mr. Orriss, who was in attendance, will be pleased to note that his efforts this night have boosted his place in the current Handicap rankings, thus:
2 N. Hardy (J) Welwyn (PTT) 24:20
3 M. Wilsher Meridian Tri (PTT) 25:18
4 R. Bumstead CCA 25:38
5 T. Allen CCA 26:14
6 S. Orriss CCA 29:17
1 D. Marriage 58We are indebted to this week's happy band of helpers, who were Ms. Wood, Mr. Morris and Mr. McLeish. Thanks All!
2 G. Askew 56
3 S. Orriss 56
