24th July Evening Club TT - Results and Handicap Standings; NOW UPDATED WITH REPORT

edited July 2019 in Time Trial
Phew, what a scorcher! And I'm not just talking about the searing temperatures or the remains of the field fire on the outskirts of Guilden Morden. Mr. Young made light of the 30 degree plus conditions, fitting his disc rear wheel and smashing his personal best by 37 seconds, breaking the foot-down course record and winning the night's Handicap in a single ride. Wow...just, WOW!

Slightly less noteworthy, though nonetheless significant, the leaders in the Handicap did battle, Mr. Askew in a slightly more leisurely fashion - he helped, receiving an average of his season's points for his timekeeping - than Mr. Chitu, who posted another PB, this time by 28 seconds, to move into third in the standings. It was also pleasing to see Mr. Orriss on his new steed and back on track a second off his PB following his bad luck last week when impeded by a tractor. Mr. McLeish was also a second off his PB. So perhaps the freshly painted chipped section of road is bedding in?

We also welcomed for the first time a new lady member to the Club, Ms. Waterfall, who posted an impressive first time ride without knowing the course well. She was fastest Lady on the night ahead of the returning Ms. Maynard. We look forward to seeing Ms. Waterfall again soon - perhaps even representing CCA at the Inter Club 10 mile time trial on 3rd August?! Just saying...!

Mr. Miles - who we congratulate for a recent Birthday - put his extra year to good use with a fastest Veteran's time off Standard (see the separate post on the Forum explaining the rules of and recent standings in that Comp). Since school is out, it seems that our Junior was in Cornwall on a family holiday instead! :-)

My thanks to our helpers tonight, who were, in addition to the aforementioned Mr. Askew, Mr. Hall and Mr. Potter. Mr. Hall was baring wares from Kalas, in particular time trial skin suits, and at one point the hall was replete with gentlemen trying to crowbar themselves into the tight fitting garments to try them on for size. (I think all were done by the time Ms. Waterfall arrived, which would otherwise have been a fine howdyado to the Evening TT! Would have broken the ice, though... :-) Seriously, though, anyone interested, please contact Mr. Hall via the usual channels. Not cheap, but full of tech like a "No Pinz"-style window pocket for your race number and various ribbed panels. There's watts and seconds in them for sure.

See you all next week!
