Welcome to the forum
Neil Gardner Memeorial RR - Aug10th
This event is organised by Luton CC and takes place on the same course as the Ashwell race.
It's run as a 2/3/4 race and I booked it before I realised I was going to be on holiday until 3 days before it.
So does sun, sea, sand, xxx, good food and no cycling put you in good form for a 101km race in windy conditions? ------ NO!!!
The race was 5 & 3/4 laps starting from Old Warden village hall and both myself and Richard Law took part. The pace was a bit stop-start but fairly high. A strong front-cross wind making the section between Cardington & the hill very hard. On the 4th lap I was contemplating the 'windy' section as we left Northill and whether or not I would be able to hide again, when up the top of the drag (turn off to Moggerhanger) both thighs cramped up and locked solid. I tried to push enough to hold onto the back of the pack as they went down the hill, but just couldn't get the old legs to turn, so that was the end of that. By this stage there was a group off the front, a small group chasing and, and then the main pack (with me and Richard in it) who were catching by lap 4. A significant number of cars had left the car park when I left, so the race was obviously fairly hard for a number of riders - makes me feel a little better.
Better get back on the bike this week and do some training ready for Thursday night at the bowl. Next longish race is at the end of August (just after the next holiday), so that's one to look forward to then!!
Cheers
