Yes, saw this yesterday immediate reaction 'GASP'. Watched it several times since. In my opinion definitely Cav's error. I'm sure he'll blame HH though.
looks to me like his self centred and arrogant approach hasn't won him any friends..that's if he had any left....Cav. has to be one of the worlds best sprinters but I don't think sky are so interested in him...he doesn't exhibit enough respect for others and his fellow team mates as would be necessary for lasting success.....doubt this bothers him overmuch...still has a bit of growing up to do, but he's young enough to take it on board I think.....definitely his fault and for a top track sprinter the dangerous change of line almost unforgiveable.
I would have to disagree on your point about 'respect for others and his fellow team mates' Geoff. After every win, the first people he thanks & congratulates are his team mates without exception. I think Cav is extremely aware of what his guys sacrifice for him and is very passionate about that and always comments on it.
Regarding Sky - Rod Ellingworth is his coach & Brailsford created him. Cav has already said that he will go to the strongest team. Don't forget his 2009 'train' has been halved. I would be willing to take a wager that he'll be in Black, White & Blue next season.
I do however, agree that he is somewhat arrogant but isn't that one of the traits of a sprinter?? Also most of his 'dodgy' comments are made 1 min after a win when, under his own admission, he is somewhat buzzing with adrenaline???
PS - If you forward the clip slowly you can see his wheel collapses before contact is made and it really is nothing compared to Robbie McEwen tactics!!!....
i agree Tim. read his book and his arrogance is nicely tempered by his respect for his teammates and how guilty he feels every time they line him up for a sprint and he fails (which is not very often admittably). i quite like having a british sprinter with the same front/arrogance as the likes of mcewan, cippo and adboujaparov. and as for protesting at the start of the stage to make cav say "sorry"... pathetic!
also think his wheel collapsed, looks like it flexes unnaturally as he moves across, then disintegrates before contact. still it was his fault, though hh had his headdown and wasnt really looking.
good points Tim.....will check the wheel collapse....agree about complimenting his OWN team.however when on the road he needs the other riders and when in a break all have to share the load...he has put at risk this needed support in his constant dissing or dismissing the other riders...what goes about comes about..hence their getting together to insist he withdraws....his line was shocking....he is a hot head.as most sprinters tend to be.....he may think he will go to the strongest team but that does imply they want him..maybe too hot to handle??
Hes a sprinter, you have to be a hothead, arrogant, risk taker etc. Its his job. if you are quite nice, very respectful and jolly decent, even if you have a sprinters body, you wont be at the front of a pro sprint.
hahahaha.got you going there ......course he is Tim.....but undisciplined too??....he was bl**dy dangerous going right across 2 ridewrs to aim for HH........
have a look at this - doesn't prove anything either way but quite interesting - you could argue from this angle it looks like HH rides into Cavendish - unless it is the angle of the camera but Cavendish remains 'square on' in the picture whereas HH moves diagonally into Cavendish?

isn't it just the danger of sprinting?
