Welcome to the forum

Saturday 13th August - Offroad to London.

Putting this out early. The plan subject to heat and trains running to do an off road route to London by picking up the Grand Union Canal towpath close to Milton Keynes and then get the return train home from St Pancras.

It's about 93miles (from Biggleswade) and heads west via Chicksands. The route is fairly flat once you get to Woburn and will be the flattest way across the Chilterns you will ever take.

I will using my CX bike and may stick on some 40mm light tread tyres for slightly more comfort.

Can post a route if your interested.

  • See you tomorrow
  • Me too. Lots of bike tinkering tonight !
  • Argh, just seen this. I'd have loved to do this ride, but my bike is at the repair shop. I'd really like to see the route, as I'd like to do it solo.
  • Andy,

The route is along the canal path is a mix of tarmac, hardcore/ gravel and concrete so given the very dry weather so it's is probably rideable on 32mm road tyres.

Last time I rode this I used my 26" hardtail MTB. A 29" MTB would be as faster.

  • Great day out yesterday….hot…the canal tow path needed full on concentration to avoid the bollards, rings, gang planks!! etc…mixed surfaces from easy tarmac to rutty and rocky to soft draggy bits…ended up with 100miles for the day with the pedal back from bedford due to the trains…
