F1B 10th JULY (A1 Tempsford)

edited July 2010 in Time Trial
F1B/10 two CC Ashwell riders turned out at the ungodly hour of 6am , Mark Horton and I.

I was quite concerned about safety being advised to ensure I was noticed by dozy truck and car drivers, “make sure you have a large flasher on the bike” seemed good advice.

The start was quite tricky and I accelerated quite slowly, I put this down to the extra weight. Once on the A1 and up to speed I was flying, handling a bit tricky as the rear rack was flexing under the weight.

Cars and lorry were giving me loads of clearance with frequent hoots on their horns as they went by. Lots shouted words of encouragement, a few asking for a phone number. Clearly Angelina was doing a great job, flashing to every car and lorry bearing down on us!

The turn point was despatch at a fair clip, we then caught my minute man who wobbled badly and then promptly fell off I can only put this down to Angelina having by now disposed of all extra weight /clothing.

The finish line was soon in sight and I pushed with all my might, Angelina holding on for dear life, me trying to shave every second off my time.

YES IT’S A FAST COURSE

What did I learn – fast boys use smaller flashers or stronger racks with a cushion.

Overall a great early morning ride at a fair clip, resulting in a PB for me.

Unfortunately I didn’t catch up with Mark at the end, but his time looked fast, not sure if it was a PB?

That’s one to do again I think.

For anyone interest http://www.timetriallingforum.co.uk forthcoming events are shown. There is a 25 mile TT on this course on the 1st of August, for anyone who wants to try and set a PB or get under the MAGIC hour.

  • Great write up Tim, glad you did it , but what did you do? let us know. ....and Mark.
  • Time for me was 22.18

Unfortunatly I lost quite a few seconds in the intial 4 minutes just didnt push hard enough. From there in was right on the rivet to the finish.

Heart rate graph very stable, as you are able to push at a very controlled effort no hills or poor surfaces etc
  • Guys,

Tim, it was so nice to see another CCA rider there...I wasn't as fast as you,I did that course last year (in September) on my standard road bike, and got a PB......this time with TT bike, knocked off a minute .... 24:25....really pleased.

If you let me have your email I can let you know the races I enter...was in Newark for a really fast one and Shropshire last year.
Sorry didnt catch up, I did come back and see results, you were deep in covnersation!! Well done for doing that!!!!
    PS....what was your average HR???
