Club run review - 31 August 2008
Nine set out in the Middle Group today - ably led by Phil in appropriately yellow jersey. His promptness to get going at 9am and keenness to dig around the lesser huffed Saffron Walden way is welcome. Good ride leadership - keeping the pace and group together.
Very warm, zero wind - and really quite foggy. The first 15 miles averaged nearly 21mph along the flat, Foxton way. In part due to young Will's fresh-faced enthusiasm up front.
Nice to see Jim since his further success in the RAAM. His cleat broke off a third of the way in - but he's faced tougher challenges than that and merely nailed his shoe to the pedal I bet using his pump or something. I like the back of his RAAM completion shirt [saw a lot of the back of it], 'One stage, 3,000 miles, 100,000ft of climbing'.
Hats off to James for diving in to the group despite a holiday break - definitely the best way to regain form.
Good to see a well tanned Robbie back from holidays too - with us having literally come off the plane this morning. If only we were all so dedicated!
Well done to those that did their fair share at the front to keep the pace going - a nod of appreciation from me who spent the time hiding behind big Andy where possible.
No punctures, a briefest of a comfort break; we belted back through Brent Pelham and Buntingford covering 52 miles at a fag paper under 19mph.
Club ride - I believe covered about 37 miles in a similar direction. A good turnout and a mix of old and new faces.
