Club run review - Sunday 7th September 2008

Good turn out. 8 in the middle group - and similar in the Club Run. It must have been the good weather??!

Middle Group set off at a fair pace, initially heading to St Neotts and then diverting to Cambridge way instead - as there simply wasn't enough big showers where we were heading.

There's a great stretch of new tarmacked road east from Great Gransden [it was in desperate need of replacing] and it's smooth and quick. One to revisit soon.

The first 40 miles averaged just over 20mph - in part due to Ashley, Alec and Carmelo's cracking pace work up front. Arguably a little bit too tasty for the middle group - but at least us at the back learn a bit about our limits!

There was a fair bit of climbing in the last third - to Barley and Barkway - that proved a bit too much by then for some; Tony still getting over a virus. But we were on the home straight and knew our way home. We should all remember we have the right to say whoa if the pace is beyond the specified speeds for each group [17-19mph average on the website].

Phil bagged the sprint at the end - well done for finding that little bit extra at the end.

Respect to Geoff for get through on his 'heavy bike' and clacking gears.

And well done to Mark, resplendent in new CCA top, for stepping up to the Middle Group without any issues.

58 miles at 18.9mph. No punctures and one potential new interested member towards the end. A bit too much distance - but overall a good, well mannered ride.
