Sunday 12th Sept - Medium ride, Grafham 64 miles [+ warm up?]

edited September 2010 in Club runs
At 8am, I'll be starting from the cemetery for a warm up 13 miles - if anyone wants to join? A Therfield/Sandon loop.

Back for 9am. I'm up for a slight variation on the 'usual' Grafham ride. Still 64 miles.

If anyone joins - and wants to stop at the Grafham cafe, take care and gently drop off the back. Last time, it was a bit messy with confusion with those carrying on.

  • Sounds good Martin...I can't make this Sunday...I am going to Sandringham for the day...have a good ride everyone
  • Good medium/fast ride. 12 out - here we go... Me, Mark, Carmelo, Iain, Phil A, Martin P, Strappy, Kevin, Tim H, Tim D, Adam H and fella in Silence Lotto top - sorry - didn't catch yer name!

Brisk pace - decent turn taking on the front - and all very amicable til the sprint back [Tim H bagged it, I believe]. Great weather. Just under 19mph av.

The warm up worked out well - around Therfield. Cheers for the scone em-cee.

See a lot of you this Friday.
  • "and fella in Silence Lotto top - sorry - didn't catch yer name".

That'll be me then. Was that the usual pace on a middle group ride?

  • martin
that was a tasty one even with the off road bit across the bridge, got back with 85 miles on the clock.
my ave was 18mph that wind was in my face the last few miles maybe yould reverse it next time i.e.
    closer to my house.!!.
    see you all friday.
    strappy
p.s.lee h might have been a tad fast for a medium.
  • Good point Strappy - the bridge up to Offord Clancy is whacked - anyone going that way. Off-road stylee. Won't do your av speed, or cleats, any good at all.

Cheers Lee. I'd say that intensity is what I'd call medium/fast. The av speed was pretty high because Grafham rides, through the 'Bedfordshire Peaks', are fairly flat and we tend to go there only when the wind direction is favorable. Much higher pace - and I'm sure there'd have been an amicable split into two groups: Fast and Medium. No one gets left behind [until Sprintsville, Tennessee] - a reassuring note to those wondering about stepping up and giving a medium ride a whirl.

There are some strong riders in that 12 - so I suppose it varies mostly on who turns up. And how far we're going. And weather.
  • That was a jolly good ride. Helped me to get my cycling mojo back.

    Would definitely class as medium/fast.

Thanks for a good route, Martin.
  • Yeah thanks Martin, just what i needed.

Definately a medium/fast. The only fast riders who werent there were Alex and Trahern. Dont forget Carmelo`s been knocking out 55 min "25`s" and did a 1.54 for the 50 on Sat. Tim H would also have been doing these sort of times had he not dropped something very heavy on his foot! So thats pretty fast company id say.

  • Would that be the same Carmelo who was down on the start sheet of the Victoria RR with me? ---- BUT WASN'T THERE!!!
Was he wearing an over sized ladies shirt yesterday morning?

  • Thanks for the feedback on the pace. It was probably about right for me, any faster and I'd struggle a bit. A good workout though, I'd done a shade over 120km by the time I got home.

As it would appear most of you are off to Belgium this weekend, will there be a medium ride out on Sunday?

    Cheers
    Lee
  • Hi Lee - am sure there'll be a few middlers out on Sunday.
