NOTE. THIS RIDE IS NOW 8AM START

Yes. Back on the road for another 70m+ ride. Phil you suggested Harpenden if you're around. That was a cracking route. If not my usual hilly one.

  • How about we have a crack at the Geoff Denny 2010 100 miler?
  • Sounds like fun. Suggest we start earlier and offer others the chance of a turn off at some point. Martin might be up for this and tells me it's easy to turn off at any point. Tim H was up for a run too. Any other takers?
  • I might get on for a few miles. Doing the Brighton 100 on Sunday so could use a spin but not the full ton thanks.
  • Gents, Shall we go with an 8am start?
  • That sounds like a plan. 8am start. Martin?
  • will have to pass gents as racing on Sunday. only 1 pass per weekend ;-)
  • Am looking to join: til Clavering - then break directly for Ashwell - circa 75 miles, back 1pm. This is all TBC though at the mo.

Anyone else fancying it - the great thing about the Geoff Denny is that you're never more than about 15 miles from Ashwell - so you can go for as long as you like really.

  • Should on for this and will head home from Heydon was to make it about half distance.
  • will see. if i can get cover for sunday i would like to join mark wyer for the first cyclocross race of the year. but this is looking unlikely. so next option would be an early one on Saturday. i need to check if cover is possible for that one too. should be able to ride until around 11am on saturday so could get in 60 if we leave at 8am.
cristalise your plans and i will do my best to join you.
  • errrrr. i have man flu will have to see how i,m feeling .......sneeze.... groan.... cough.......
  • What race are you doing Skelders?

I don't see you on the start sheet of the 110K 2/3/4 last chance points grabber, HQ Whitwell this Sunday

if you are not doing the points grabber at whitwell does that mean you have bought a 'cross bike and are joining mark, me and (hopefully) vince cyclo cross racing at chelmsford??
  • That'll be because I'm on the Northampton & District Cycling Association 22.6 mile TT start sheet on the F15/22 :-)

    good luck with yours...
  • do I detect a competetive edge creeping into the club???? :-)
  • tim

    what is your target time?
  • based on my club 25 time my target would be 58 mins. However the conditions don't look quite as favourable! wind & rain!
  • Excuses, Excuses. PMA Tim!....
  • shouldn't that be PMT Phil? :-)
  • got to get them in early, set those expectations low, achieve high ;-)
  • ok i can ride first thing so will join you all at 8am but have to be back by 11am latest. so 60 miles and if the reliability ride skirts ashwell a lot i can find a way back. are you all still up for 8am depart from ashwell? Have we been hijacked by TT natter? Phil K. Cannot ride sunday unfortunately so fly the flag at the cyclo cross and we will have to plan tacktics for the Baldock race.

    Vincent.
  • yes - 8am from the cemetery Vince. Back to Ashwell from Elmdon/Heydon is 60 miles.

    Cold start - wrap up!
  • martin cheers.
just been told the game is off and i don't get to play tomorrow. sorry chaps cannot ride after-all. will have to try and put a few miles in during my dreams this weekend and keep the fitness gained from Belgium up some other way.
    enjoy

  • 7 out. Me, Phil A, Robbie, Pete, Jason, Chris and David. It was the Belgium weather we were expecting last week perhaps. Clear, cold, v windy. The GD100 is maybe an excellent winter ride: always able to peel off. Safe. Up and down. Great ride today.

Pete left at Old Warden - good luck tomorrow in Brighton. Two punctures early doors around Cople. Robbie had one even with winter tyres on. The 2010 flint gremlin still continues to hide in Robbie's seat pack somewhere... Both repaired super-quickly. The wind behind us for large stretches - oddly. We tonked it through the first 50. Jason was doing a sterling job powering on the front at times: putting the fast into medium/fast.

Jason left at the A505. Chris and David peeled off at Heydon to total about 60 miles. I left Phil and Robbie to it at Clavering. Everyone gets what they want. And the 8am start helped too I think: back to Ashwell just before 1pm with 81 miles at 18mph av having grinded through the headwind on the drops going uphill. Song in my head; Martha Reeves and the Vandellas; nowhere to run to baby, nowhere to hide.
  • nice one boys!

me and the boy dave done 79 miles for the record!

took the scenic route back to ashwell- somehow!
  • Chris. 19 miles off course. I can't work out how that's possible..?! Impressed! Hope your mates didn't have to wait too long outside your house.
  • mates were safely installed in the chequers!

it wasnt a route back that was familiar to me!
