Blue Egg Bank Holiday Monday?

edited August 2013 in Club runs
I'm thinking about taking a ride over to the Blue Egg on Bank holiday Monday as I may have gained myself a free pass for the morning.

Just gauging interest really to see who else is keen?

  • Good call Matt - I'll be on if I'm around...
  • Any idea what time you will be there and heading back from the Blue Egg?

I'm cycling back from Elveden on Monday and may make that a stop en route to Hitchin.
  • I'm interested, Matt. (Ok for 17 -18mph, but happy to go slower)
  • Weather is looking good so far. I was aiming to leave Royston around 9:30. John, Is this OK with you if you still fancy it? If anyone is coming from Ashwell way and would rather go via Sandon instead of coming up to Royston, we can meet at Hare Street?

Pace wise, I'm happy with anything from 16 - 18, whatever everyone is happy with really - I have no records to set! Will just be nice (for me, anyway) to do a longer ride as I have been a bit restricted lately!
  • Hi Matt

are you leaving from the Heath?
    Cheers
    Peter
  • Yep. Will leave from the Heath. Plenty of parking If anyone wants to drive over
  • Might see you there then, given it's around 35 miles each way from Ashwell...so you''ll be arriving 11.30-11.45ish. It's 40 miles from Thetford, so I'm aiming to arrive for a lunch break. Weather looks good!
  • Me and David are interested in joining you.

We would be leaving from Baldock via Sandon so could meet you at Hare street - what time do you reckon you will be there?

    Emma
  • Assuming we get away bang on 9:30, then Hare Street for 10 should be ok?
  • Could I please join. Could meet anyone going from baldock?
  • Watch out for the newly laid tar and chippings from Hare St to Gt Hormead. I cycled it yesterday and the heat made the tar still wet!
  • Confirm I'll be on Matt - the weather forecast is very good!
  • Ok, great., Assuming this cold my delightful children have given me doesn't worsen overnight, Heath car park to be ready to leave at 9:30 and Hare Street 10
  • I might join you depending how this evening's celebrations go! Which is the Heath car park please? Is it the one on the road from the Little Chef up to Therfield?
    John
  • I'll be leaving Baldock around 9ish tomorrow via Sandon to Hare Street. Happy to meet/ride with anyone else going the same way.

A great ride, with 14/15 riders on - thanks all and particulary Matt.

No punctures and fortunately no one got stung by the Blue Egg wasps!
  • Yep a great ride and great company - thanks everyone!
  • Thanks Matt. That was just the kind of ride I needed today
Amazing weather for a bank holiday too
  • Missed you all! I started off from Thetford later than expected. Kept expecting the Blue Train to appear any moment!
  • Really enjoyed that. Didn't quite expect the turnout, but great to see so many and great to do a few more miles than usual. Hope everyone made it back safe after the split at Newport. John, would have waited for you back at Royston but thought I had better go and relieve Anita of baby duties!

    Thanks everyone
  • After plotting on mapmyride (need a garmin!).....

57.6 miles from Royston and back @ 17 on the nose, with 1400ft climbing
  • Great ride yesterday Matt, really enjoyed it. Thanks to Dan & TomT too for their excellent work on the front of the pack.

Me and Emma left the Royston group at Great Chishill, and went back to Baldock via Reed, Therfield and Sandon. 71 miles on the clock by the time we got back.

Excellent way to spend a BH Monday !
