Grass Track Training - Saturdays

edited July 2011 in General
Folks,

Who fancies a track training session on our new track? I was thinking saturday morning 10? Probably less than an hour. Mostly track pace line, TTT style.
Depending on numbers and sizes we can probably accomodate about 8 adults on our track bikes. Bring your pedals.

  • I'd like to have a bash Tim.
  • Tim after my brief intro this past weekend, I can't resist another go.

Thanks for organising - already looking forward to it.

    Adam
  • Tim,
Brilliant idea. I hope to be there. Please can everyone wear club kit, this way I will try to grab a few photos which might get used to promote our fine new facility.

    Daniel
  • Dad there is no way you will be allowed to come
tim i would like to come but is there any chance of it staring a little earlyer like 9:00 or 8:30?
  • Theo, ive got to do something else first. Can probably get there for 9.30 if thats any good?
  • If you want my help Tim I could open up at 9am for any youth riders that want a bash earlier....might be a good idea to have alevel 2 BC track coach there (myself,Dave or Mark).

great initiative Tim....I bet there are a lot of our club members who would love the track and experience of grass track riding.
  • sounds fantastic. never thought you would ask. Do we have track bikes for the oldies or will this be a bring your own ride?
  • as Tim says above Vincent..we have a few.
  • one more thing. what time does the Thursday kids training start and can Lucy come along for a go. she is only 6 and has no gears but wanted to see if she enjoyed it or not?
Also can adults do grass track on thursday or is it for the youth really?
  • Vincent, the thursday kids sessions are 5.45- 7.15. The go ride group, which i take (6- 8 year olds) is currently full, very full. But things are usually a bit quieter during the holidays, so bring her down for a taster session and ill do my best to squeeze her in.

Thursdays is really youth night (except 1st sept bash which is for both) We can of course get adult sessions going whenever we wish. Ive suggested this Sat. just to start things off but friday night or monday night for a grass track league? Its up to us really. Would be great to get a regular track session established.
  • Let's discuss this track league idea Tim.....Let us try to make it on a night which doesn't conflict and when they may have time and energy ......Friday is track league night at Welwyn for those racing on tarmac.....lots of riders who might like to be in a grass track league will be unable to do both.
Also Steve Clarke is trying to get a Friday grass track league off the ground in Peterborough so in conflict.
Monday could be a great opportunity.
I think however that a Tuesday could work better...people have recovered from the weekend.....it doesn't conflict with Monday track night at Welwyn...Riders could get any amount of fitness training in whether chain gang..time trial..endurance and it is in a safe off the road environment which lends itself to youth and adults to concentrate on the riding without concern for traffic.
Evenings present a problem however as most adults are not back after work before it gets dark in the later months

Saturday morning or afternoon say 10-12noon or 3-5pm might work.
    Anyone have any more thoughts?
  • just checked the diary.....sorry everyone, but I am in Durham this weekend. I will NOT be able to help this Saturday.....have a great first stab at our track.

Tim. perhaps Dave Carter is around if you need him. There are a couple of my bikes there ready for grass track if anyone wants a go....have fun.

Please use the smaller track as I don't want the new grass to be too heavily worn on our race track...thanks
  • Tim - please can I have a go, if only to give me some preparation for having a go at grass track myself when I'm ferrying Anna around the southeast.

    Cheers

    Jeremy
  • Is this on?
  • Yeah. Ill be there from about 9.45
  • Good session this morning. Think we had 9 or 10 to start with and did a good TTT session followed by some team sprints, timed laps and handicaps. The winning team sprint was 1.54. 64 by T Giles, JWallis and M Constable.

As everyone found out, you get a good workout on the grass!

Same again next week. If you are a club member and are at all interested, come down, its fun.
  • Tim

Great session - many thanks Tim. I look forward to more - though I can't make next Saturday.

PS Did I leave my helmet - a silver Giro - by any chance: I can't find it at home(!?)
  • Didnt see a helmet. Unless it was left up on the track?
  • Tim thanks again for putting this session together. Fantastic fun and a good workout.

    Adam
  • great to see so many club members getting on the grass track.........thanks for setting it up Tim......lets have more people getting into grass track......It is YOUR club and YOUR track and will probably turn out to be the best one in the country when it has matured in a couple of years.
  • Folks,

Same again this saturday? 9.30 for 10.00. All welcome especially those new to it. The track is running fast at the moment, one of the lads, i think Ed did a 28s lap tonight!

    Hopefully see you there.
  • Yikes! No Ed's allowed tomorrow.

    Will be there. Adam
  • It was Andrew, he did a 29.50!!!!
One to watch on 1st September!!!!
  • do i need to bring pedals or are there some spares that can be borrowed?
  • plenty of SPD's Phil....that's the small metal version..can't remember the type.
  • thanks geoff - assume you mean the MTB type?
  • I can't make it tomorrow, unfortunately: family commitments. have a good one.

(And on the subject of quick times, Anna and Andrew did a one lap team sprint last night: 33 seconds. Anna is 8: I just wish I was as fast.)
  • yes Phil.......
  • Good turnout..Martin/Dave/Adam/Jon/Ed/Jez/Me and Tim......we all had a good session and it looks like we have a hit on our hands....thanks for setting this up Tim....

Nigel...bring your kit next week eh!! :-)

New team sprint record..am sure Martin will recall time
  • Ed and Anneka are have two grass track meets this weekend. Suffolk Wheelers and Team Welwyn.

I did notice Geoff that there is nothing about your 1st Sept. meet on BC, is it just a club event?
