Oddly I quite enjoyed that. The weather and conditions overcome with a positive mental attitude and a bit of determination. The right clothing and bikes helped too. Getting to the Blue Egg was easy in the tail wind. Getting back to Ashwell was super …

Mudguards, overshoes and Gore Tex. Let's go.

Met up with Geoff at last night's CCA film and we (sort of) discussed a Yorkshire training weekend in April by way of preparation. A chance to recce parts of the route and get in some valuable early season miles.

The delta is the original Look platform with big cleats. The keo cleats won't fit I'm afraid. You'd need to get new cleats as well so suggest too much hassle.

Yep winter bikes and riding. Make the route dependent on the weather. If really wet then stay in bed!

I have several pairs of deltas if you're interested.

Would like to echo thanks to everyone that made this happen. Enjoyed learning more about Alf and having him there in person added to the interest.
Particularly liked the pieces with Barry Chick and Alan Rochford. Along with Alf they were… -
I'll be out on Saturday but just happy with the usual ride and banter......
How about a trip out to the Blue Egg?

Thanks James. A good turn out despite the fog. The usual eclectic mix of CCA enjoying a steady 30-40miles at 16mph. Everyone riding to keep the group together with only a brief split on Croydon hill. Didn't even have the finishing sprint for the Ashw…

John - that sounds like good progress to me. Maybe see it as off season cross training! Least ways a chance to recharge mentally after a long season culminating in Paris Nice.
Reckon starting again in December with a really positive ment… -
Looks dry tomorrow so still on Summer bike + Ass Saver. Leastways I've been too bone idle to refit the mudguards to my CX bike after a Summer of commuting on the Greenway. Shouldn't be a problem for those following the wheels.

Adam - assume you are headed for the Worlds Darts at Ally Pally? It is a great night out and when you are there you'll realise how mentally tough the players are. I have the pleasure of knowing an ex- finalist who lost to Phil the Power in 2005. This…

This is a good idea and provides flexibility around the weekend. Reckon it would be popular on days where it is icy early on but warms up sufficiently by lunchtime.
Would be keen to join occasionally if I can't make the Pirate ride. Enco… -
I too have enjoyed the six day racing on Eurosport. They are also showing the Revolution event from Manchester tomorrow night and have been showing highlights of cyclo cross.
Good to see cycling on the box all year round - marvellous.
It was an absolute pleasure to be there. The look of surprise on your face when 20+ cyclists arrived outside your house was classic! "Get your bike" - Martin L's 50 hilly miles for 50years.
Was an excellent CCA caper and thanks to Jess e…Only 4 out this morning soon reducing to 3 as Luke headed home. Gloomy with a cold northerly wind giving a hint that winter isn't too far away. Headed east into Essex and kind of made it up as we went along. Ended up with plenty of hills and quiet ro…It would be 80ish miles. Let's see who turns up on Saturday and go with a consensus view on route.
Some folk may want to get back early or head to support the CX racing so we may need something flexible.Already got me tickets - see you there.Trisports have a device to measure the distance between your sit bones and hence guide saddle choice. They also have a good selection of demo saddles (Fizik and Bontrager) and do exchange if not satisfied. I switched to a narrower saddle based on the…Looks like a really nice machine. I own a 2015 Domane 5.2 and can vouch that it is a seriously good bike to ride.Tony - I reckon there's a few more weekends yet for the Summer bike. Looks like the group wanted something much longer today? I was on hill climb duty - see you next week. Thanks to Tim and JMac for officiating today - I know this is much appreciated by everyone who rode.
A nice mix of racing members and regular club run folk. Typical CCA with good competition and friendly banter. A great event capped with…I think you need to be more worried about the village idiots driving to/from the pub at that time.
Make sure you save some energy for Sunday....Will probably do the club hill climb on Sunday so going to save the legs.
If I change my mind - see you at the Tuns at 8am.Gareth and Fin - I encourage you both to persevere with the Saturday rides as much as you can. I don't recall any problems with regrouping or waiting. Please don't be discouraged.Enjoyed that - nice smooth ride with everyone staying together most of the time. Usual eclectic mix of CCA out and the usual tear up in the last two miles. All good on a fine Autumnal day.
See you next week.
JPReally enjoyed that too. I ended up with 96miles at bang on 17mph. Thanks to Phil for the route and leading. Tough ride with 3800ft of climbing. Good to see Gareth and Finlay out and hopefully today didn't put you off. Also, great to catch up with Gr…Gareth - see you at the Tuns at 8am on Saturday. There isn't a target speed. It is more about a long ride at a steady (but not slow) speed. We generally stop for a coffee and everyone is relaxing a bit after a long season. We try to stay together and regroup after the hills.
Think 85mi…Sounds good - not been to Woburn since early June.
Hub at Redbourne good idea.
