agree Jane.....The statement "regardless of weather conditions" seems stupidly macho.....clearly there are conditions totally unsuitable and any sensible rider will take that into consideration.
Hope you guys get a ride on Sunday but it doesnt look good and dont risk it if it is bad. Its early in the year and there are plenty of other rides. I went out on my cross bike this morning and the little bits of tarmac that i did use were proper lethal.
I commuted in and out of london yesterday and apart from the seasonal disadvantages (convinced myself I had frostbite in my fingers and toes, turns out I didn't. Who would have thought?) the main roads were actually pretty rideable. I never go on the lanes in this weather, so couldn't vouch for them but the worst thing for me was the fog. I was riding at night (got in at 1am), so my lights were probably more visible than in the daytime, but those who brave it on Sunday might wanna stick some bright lights on just in case. I'm going to wuss out as I've got a late gig on Saturday and don't fancy the lanes if the weather sticks like this. Sorry! I'll be up for some of the others though... Thanks for posting them up, Shaun.
I agree on all of the above, I've been out this week and today was the first day I enjoyed some black ice which was jokes..I think anything off main roads will be a nightmare and just dangerous. Going to swerve it unless something changes, it's the descents that spook me too Jane, really not cool in these conditions.
Shame but I'm going to pull out too. I was out with the club today and it was fine in a small group (just 4 of us) but could be a complete nightmare with high numbers. It only takes a few mad riders and there could be mayhem so I'm not going to risk wasting all that training. If the weather improves I'll be up for one of the others.
I will keep a check on the road surface conditions on tomorrow (Saturday) but ice on Bison Hill with other traffic also using it in not an encouraging prospect. I know a few people who live along the route so will check in with them tomorrow. At present you can't drive a vehicle up the tarmac lane to the Gliding Club at Dunstable, so other similar lanes enroute could still be difficult on Sunday.
Excel Bike Show on Thursday was interesting and I'm glad that I went but I didn't think that the scope covered by the companys and products there was as wide or as interesting as the previous shows that I'd been to at Earls Court.
NOTE: DUE TO THE CURRENT WEATHER MAKING ROAD CONDITIONS DIFFICULT ESPECIALLY FOR THE CLIMBS OF BISON HILL AND ASTON HILL WE ARE LIKELY TO ONLY RUN THE SHORTER 55KM ROUTE
It seems like the HHH organisers are restricting the entry list to 100 riders. If you're not yet ready to enter but may be interested, you could monitor the number of places left using this link.
Might still be a little cold for daffodils, but the forecast is for milder weather than this weekend (mercifully)
Online entry has now closed, but you can still enter on the day (£10). Approx 60miles in the Chilterns ... for details see http://www.harphillyhundred.org.uk/

...and even that's being rather optimistic.
So still got a chance to do this.
I'm up for that. Might even see daffodils by then
