In the context of - as mentioned above - a bit of fun track-standing slow race, on a walkway, I don't think the public will have a problem. No one has complained, three months on. Nor do I feel we brought the Club into disrepute.
There is no suggestion from me that the club has been brought into disrepute and I'm certainly no party pooper.
Just so others know why this has been raised after 3 months, two of us were asked to edit another topic to make it clear that we were not suggesting hard drinking and riding would take place on the streets of Ashwell.
It was thought that 'vengeful white van man with a friend at the Royston Crow' might get the club into hot water or that there were 'Jeremy Clarksons who would love to have a pop at cyclists and or our club'. I'm sure that there are such folk out there.
Specifically, it was requested that our post was edited so that it did not suggest 'riding and boozing'.
Although none of the posts actually mentioned riding a bike and drinking, I agreed to edit the post, but pointed out that pictures of our riders in our club kit riding bikes on the pavement was not exactly going to make friends of 'white van man' or the 'Jeremy Clarksons' either. Especially coming after pictures of empty beer bottles and posts about a pub crawl. In particular the suggestion in the post above that 'So, I suggest we start at the Old St LMNH, make our way to the Dovetail for a little while, then taxi or Bozza Bike it over around 7:30pm'
That's suggesting riding a Boris Bike after about 5 hours drinking then? Sensible?
However, these points were then deleted by another.
The light-hearted banter about the pub circuit around Ashwell was all 'a bit of fun' and we certainly don't advocate riding a bike under the influence either on the road or a walkway (pavement?).
Comments
Should we not edit these to avoid giving the public the wrong impression?
