Well, i think we were very lucky with the weather looking at what the afternoon brought but yes it was a tad chilly! Great riding from all, i love watching the riders coming up the road on the second hill, its quite a sight and such a great view. Big thanks to all the spectators i know its really great for the riders.
Heres the result....first hill/second hill/total
Matt Palmer 2.26/ 4.44/ 7.10 Martin Lawless 2.29/ 4.46/ 7.15 Steve Jennings 2.32/ 4.49/ 7.21 Chris Potter 2.40/ 4.43/ 7.23 Dave Wells 2.39/ 4.59/ 7.38 Vince Friedlander 2.39/ 5.16/ 7.55 Brendan Ronayne 2.34/ 5.32/ 8.06 Jenny Andrews 3.00/ 5.26/ 8.26 Matt Scales 2.53/ 5.49/ 8.42 Harley Pell 3.08/ 5.46/ 8.54 David Jones 3.06/ 5.55/ 9.01 Andy Nunn 3.11/ 6.03/ 9.14 Shelton Pell 3.32/ 6.35/ 10.07 Jack Spearing 2.48 Ethan Storti 3.40 Scott Storti 3.40
Ok, so Well done to Matt and Jenny our CCA Hill Climb champions. Lots of interesting things in there....Ethan and Scott, father and son separated by 30 odd years and same time! They decided quite sensibly along with Jack that one hill was enough. Shelton was magnificent on his trike and Harley was very close to grabbing the ladies trophy, not helped by easing up at my car rather than the finish on the first hill. Brendan was super unlucky on the second hill when very much in contention dropped his chain within sight of the finish. And actually it was very tight at the top and could have gone anywhere. Interesting that Chris in 4th was fastest on hill 2. I was saying to Stef that it is slightly weighted to hill 2 as its longer but in fact it looks like hill 1 was maybe more important this year.
Big thanks to Tim, Stef and Emma for all the coordination. As ever: the Hill Climb is great fun and a brilliant morning of racing. Even when it's as cold as it was. The drink in the Fox & Duck afterwards is the new tradition, I think.
Well done Matt and Jenny. Hats off to Shelton on his trike. Agonising for Brendan - shoulda done a Froomy for the last bit! Looking forward to see who edges the Storti tete a tete in 2017.
Thank you to everyone for organising, supporting and taking part. If I had known where I was on the last hill, i wouldn't have changed gear, but at that point the lack of oxygen to my brain had impaired my vision! Never mind - at least I have a target for next year that I might be able to beat!
If this is all about power to weight, yesterday confirms that I definitely have neither !!
Huge thanks to all the cowbell and cheering supporters on the steep bit of coombe hill. Paced this hill completely wrong and had nothing left for the kick at the end ! Without you all there prob would have got off and just chucked the bike in the hedge
Great CCA event - can we have it in August next year though to make it a touch less Siberian. Still on the positive, at least the celebration beers were properly chilled !!
