The rear mech is good once tuned. However on a Shimano rear mech you can experiment by twisting the rear tension screw 1/4 or 1/2 a full turn. On the SRAM you only need to twist 1/8 to get the same sort of shift. This is probably due to the 1-to-1 a…

My last point is that I have dropped my chain a few times shifting from big ring to small (53 to 39). You just need to ask Frank Shleck how much difference a dropped chain and 39 seconds makes to know this can be annoying (he was riding SRAM Red). O…

Hi Darren, I have SRAM Red on my bike. It functions just like SRAM Force but costs a lot more for a whole 10 grams weight saving (I bought it on a deal about 3 weeks before SRAM Force came out). I have to say that it was pretty tricky to set up. T…

I didn't make it down due to the rain in Hitchin at 6:30 - 7pm. Looks like it cleared a bit later. Maybe some Ashwell locals with less distance to travel made it out.

Hard luck mate. Full respect for qualifying in the first place.

I suppose you are talking about one of these: SPECIALIZED FSR XC EXPERT 2010 RRP £1300

Don't undersell our speed Vincent. I clocked 24.2 mph for the first lap and 23.9 average for the next two combined.
Apparently the Tour de France is won with an average of about 25 mph and that is on smooth roads with no potholes. So n… -
Agreed. It is a good event with some great climbs.
I'd also add that this year they are painting the route markings on the road so you can't get lost. Last year some local scally took down a few signs adding roughly 10 miles to most peo… -
What a fun day out.
It was all so easy at the start. How things had changed by about 70 miles after 40 miles of an irritating headwind. The climb into the second feed station was massive. Just big enough to ensure that my quads were cr… -
Hi Tim,
Is the jersey the standard type or the ninja-slick racing type?
Thanks,

Does anyone know what is the earliest we can start for this event?
On my ride last weekend I started 2.5 hours late. That meant spending the entire ride overtaking riders, some of which did not have any road manners or sense. I got stuc… -
I will be along tonight. Not sure how my legs will feel after the King of the Downs sportif at the weekend. 116 hilly miles was a tough ride in the hot weather.

I will be out tonight.
With the extra light we should be able to get round 3 laps this time. -
Hi Robbie,
Thanks for the offer. I'll speak to you about it on Saturday. -
I'll be down this Saturday Robbie.
No Phil A. though because he is racing on Sunday. -
Looks a bit too easy to be worth it. I am probably away that day anyway. Enjoy yourself.
-
I am off on holiday for the next two weekends. I will leave you chaps to it and rejoin you again at Easter.
-
I will not be testing my old wheels around the TT circuit.
Does anyone want to join me for 60 or so miles somewhere round Hertfordshire? -
Anyone who is interested in wasting an hour or two finding hard climbs can check out this site: http://www.climbbybike.com/index.asp
When Mont Ventoux is ranked only 125th hardest climb in their list you know there will be some serious … -
If you scan down the list of hills for your favourite you will see that Bwlch-y-groes is 1-in-7 average and climbs 1250 vertical feet. They put that 110 miles into the Dave Lloyd Mega last year. Apparently it has made seasoned professional cyclists …

The cold was brutal at 8:30am. Fans of dancing on ice would have been amused by Robbie skidding to a halt on his Fixie several times on black ice.
We still managed 59 miles riding at 15.8 mph and about 0.75 miles walking at 2 mph.
I have just entered the gran fondo.
Looking at the route profile it seems this will be a good challenge with climbs all the way through to the end of the route. With the CCA riders accumulating on the entry list I am sure we will be ab…Probably 60+ miles. Maybe more if people are keen.
It looks like it might rain at 12pm so we will assess the situation tomorrow morning.
