  • What an absolute scorcher - well done all. Looking forward to round 6!
  • Fortunately I had a date with my sons footy! Great ride though, I left Phil & Jezz at Everton, then TT'd back to Ashwell. Finished with just shy of 50 @ a shade over 20's... I believe they will have doubled that!!!

    C u next week 8-)
  • Did 80m of the GD on Tuesday. Thinking about a hilly 60-70m on the fixed this saturday.
  • Cool...

    Wallington
    Weston
    Whitwell
    Lilley
    Henlow
Langford (maybe add on 10m to Wimpole roundabout)

i am off again this saturday nice route that,i needs some hill work see you at 8.00am.
    cheers
    strappy.
  • Gentlemen enjoy. I will be doing the usual, only setting off at about 07:30 (as it appears to be a solo outing). If anyone is interested in joining me just post it here - cheers.
  • Respect. That training is going well Phil.
  • If I can set up my cheats wheel on time I should be there. 3 Tuns ?

    Alistair
  • looks like I have ground clearance for sunday this week, am aiming to join your ride again soon though Phil, you & Jezz inspired me last week with your seemingly effortless ability to kick the crap out of me ;-)
  • See you at 8 peeps
  • Afraid the wheel is taking more to set up than I had hoped so will not make it in the morning.

    Alistair
  • Ouch...Ouch....and Ouch. If the terrain and distance didn't finish me off the wind sure did...107 today - Round 7 next week.
  • Was a tad on the windy side. Fixed and hilly today for the 3 of us. MC, Strappy and Me. Usual 60m south of the 505 route.
  • thanks robbie/mc
what a nice ride at least when your on fixed i can keep up finished on 62 miles @17 mph ave just shows how hills and a stiff breeze can do.
as we were back earley i have a green light to do a few more miles even on the wife's birthday result.will do a circuit of cardington hill etc.
    it the weather is ok.
    cheers
    strappy.
  • I'll check on the Garmin how much climbing we did on that route. Went out on Sunday afternoon for a couple of hours... very steady in that wind!
Next week same route first half then Sundon! Been up that thing a couple of times on the fixed - with and involuntary track stand half way up.
  • Assume this is still on ?

    Alistair
  • Yes. 8am on. (might not have that 2nd bottle white)
  • No.excuses this week. Types pumped, cork in bottle and ready for some zzz. See you in the morning.
  • A glorious round 7 of 109 on the fixed. On call next weekend so round 8 for me will probably be umpteen laps of the TT as need to stay close to home - cheers.
  • Well done Phil. Leading example.

We had a hilly 70m+ fixed ride including Sundon Hill.
    Top ride and pacy.

and for my shirt arm length Kit Man...

    42 x 4.5 = st emillion 13.5%

(chest x arm length x thirst)

ps- Kit- any luck with my jeans yet?!
  • Did the hilly saturday route yesterday including Sundon... the wind was blowing a gust down that thing - practising my track stands again.

    another chart says :

    48 x 18 = 72"
    48 x 19 = 68.21"

    46 x 18 = 69"

    42 x 16 = 70.88"

also our crank lengths vary from 165-170-175mm.

But the 13.5% St Emillion tastes nicer.
  • Robbie,

I can only make Sunday this week I am afraid. Have a good ride on Sat.

    Alistair
  • what on earth are you stato's going on about??? I can get my head around the ratio bit but what's the inches bit?? excuse my ignorance...
  • I plan to be out this Saturday, rugby has finished so no excuses now.

Skelders it's the inches travelled forward per one pedal rotation. Circumference of wheel (in inches) x (front ring/back cog)
  • i knew that

    :-}
  • I think inches is a bit more esoteric than that. not the inches of forward travel but rather the diameter of a penny farthing wheel of equivalent gear ratio. That is the distance traveled forward on 46 / 18 is the same as the distance traveled forward on a penny farthing with a 69 inch wheel. A hang over from when gears were first invented and when previously the only way to have a bigger gear was get a bigger wheel!

Think of inches as a valueless number.

There is a very good app for this called Bike gears and it factors in tyre size as well
  • Crikey, but i'm guessing it all still hurts the further or steeper you go ;-}
  • I've learnt something there, including the meaning of esoteric! My mistake I was using diameter not circumference, which for some reason gets you pretty close. Sorry skelders.
