edited December 2014 in Club runs
Here we go again for some more festive miles…

The Festive 50's will take place on :

Sat 20 December
Sun 21 December
Mon 22 December
Tue 23 December
Wed Xmas Eve
Fri Boxing Day
Sat 27 December
Sun 28 December
Mon 29 December
Tue 30 December
Wed New Years Eve
Th New Years Day

All rides start at 9am from the Three Tons and finish back there for a festive drink.

Each ride will be around 50 miles based on the usual ones like :
Hexton- Lilley - Old Knebworth.
Sandy - Bourn - Chapel Hill.
Barrington - Duxford - Barkway
Heydon - Buntingford - Ardeley

And no doubt variations based on the above.
Festive 50's are kept at a steady pace averaging 16-17mph pending on weather.

If anyone manages to ride 10 festive 50's then they qualify for the FESTIVE 500 badge.

Awesome 500 miles base training ready for 2015.

  • Nice one Robbie. I'll make as many as I can!
  • Thanks Robbie. Just the inspiration I need to keep the weight off over Christmas...and 50 miles is about right for a hangover cure!

Will try to make a few rides on the days I'm off work from Boxing Day onwards.
  • awesome robbie, thanks! will be good serious training for getting back on the bike, I want that badge!
  • Last year Rapha did a Festive 500, which was to ride 500km between Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. Can't find any mention of one for 2014, has anyone else?
    Susan
  • yeah they will! (i hope?!)

Gaining the 500 badge sounds like it might potentially create some friction on the Home Front.

Club cycling can be viewed from "outside" as a somewhat selfish activity by those not riding, so it will be interesting to see whom, if anyone can, be Badged.

I'm continuing my 'round Britain tour from Ipswich commencing 26th, but will make an effort to ride some of these dates before then.
  • Great idea Robbie - will make as many of these as I can.

Yes Susan. I think my maths is right. If you complete the F50s between Christmas Eve and NYE, you'll breeze the Rapha Strava Festive 500.... km (310 miles).

Hope to see you for one or two of the early ones. I might run a few Sunrise Rides too that get t'Tuns 9am.
  • Great stuff, will try for a few if i can,

Perfect, I'll be there for a few until the warmer climbs of Cape Town call from the Saturday woop woop ! ( can I still get a badge if I keep up the miles in the Sun please Robbie? ;-) Argus training
  • Good thing I'm back on the 19th!
  • Can this be completed on Strava?

I will not be riding oft' with CCA, but can prove the mileage via Strava.

Will this still count since I will be able to prove the daily mileage?

I re-commence my 'round GB ride at Ipswich on the 26th Dec for a week.

  • Bugger, overslept, festive 50 (well about 10) drinks clearly didn't help last night! See u Xmas eve!

    Eleven to go!

Sunday 21 Dec route: Sandy. Bourn. Haslingfield. Meldreth
  • Good ride today although a bit of a shame we got separated from Pete just before Buntingford. I think everyone in the group wasn't happy that happened and we'll try to do better at looking out for each other on the rest of the rides.

Weather looks good for the next few days. A festive pint for me tonight and see you for number two tomorrow.
  • Think we had about twelve out today.
Bit tough riding back into the wind... thanks for the coffees chaps!

Tmw let's head south west into the wind then get a tailwind return:
    Watton on stone-knebworth-Whitwell etc
